Who We Are

The Eden Learning Trust is a newly established Multi Academy Trust based in South West Durham. Its aim is to provide the strongest possible education opportunities, in an environment where every one of our children really matters. Our banner of ‘Achievement for all’ is testament to this aim and has supported the founding schools in good stead over the past 5 years.

Mr Brennan, CEO said “As a Trust we will be defined by our ambition for our students, our warmth and our approachability as well as our drive to help in each other though collaboration and mutual support.”

“A great trust is about great people and within the Eden Learning Trust our staff are most definitely, our greatest asset. Their skills, unwavering professionalisms and good humour are at the core of what makes education great. We are driven to support our staff in their development, to help them to become great at ever part of their role. We believe that a successful staff, make successful learners and a happy and successful school.”

Founding Schools

Eden Learning Trust (ELT) was formed in July of 2018 and has been founded through established local working relationships between one primary school, Chilton Academy and two secondary schools, Ferryhill Business & Enterprise College and Woodham Academy.

Our ethos is one of partnership and collective responsibility. The founding schools have developed a truely collaborative model for the Trust Board and Head teacher Boards, supported by independent financial, legal and business experts. This has allowed individual schools to be integrated into key decisions and in control of the MAT direction and destiny.

In the past few months, ELT has established a backbone of common infrastructure that includes financial, child protection, HR and Pupil Performance systems, but Eden Learning Trust also recognises that all schools are different - and such variety is to celebrated.

Within Eden, schools retain their identity, their ways of working, but gain new friends and partners. Collaboration and intra-school support are our mantra, working collectively for the best interests of our students.

Trust CEO

Kevin Brennan is the new CEO of the Eden Learning Trust. For the past 5 years he has worked as Headteacher at Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College and has overseen a step change in school performance. His vision was and still is one of partnership, placing value on each persons’ contribution towards the whole and strong emphasis on mutual respect for students and staff.

Mr Brennan said “The Trust is an opportunity to take FBEC to a new level of collaboration. We hope to work with all our local and regional schools to make education better for everyone. We have taken our initial steps towards working in stronger partnerships with some schools and this has resulted in the formation of the MAT.”

“There is a view that MATS are about radical and sometimes controversial change. For FBEC and its partners, whilst we have strong ambitions, our approach is measured, sensible and focused on what is best for students and staff.”

“We are hoping that other schools will see value in our approach and will want join our MAT. We are planning to announce the first of these in the next few months.”
